Aftercare
Tattoo Aftercare Guide
Keep your bandage on for the first few hours, then wash gently with fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water.
Pat dry with a clean paper towel and apply a very thin layer of recommended aftercare ointment.
Avoid swimming, hot tubs, saunas, and direct sun while healing. Do not pick or scratch flakes.
Wear loose, clean clothing around the tattoo and keep the area moisturized as it heals.
If you notice excessive redness, swelling, or signs of infection, contact your artist or healthcare provider.
Healing Timeline and Expectations
Most tattoos show light peeling and dryness between days 3 and 10. This is normal healing behavior. Keep cleansing gently, avoid over-moisturizing, and let any flaking skin shed naturally so the pigment settles evenly.
During weeks 2 to 4, the surface may look healed while deeper layers are still recovering. Continue daily care until the skin texture feels fully normal. Hydrated skin and sun protection will help preserve color saturation and line clarity long-term.
When to Reach Out to the Studio
Contact Lost in Ink if you have unusual pain, heat, spreading redness, or fluid that does not improve after the first day. We can advise on normal healing versus signs that need medical evaluation, and help with touch-up planning when appropriate.
